Currently (0.8.0.5), when checking wifi connectivity, Wifi Fixer will try icmp/echo to the wifi access point. Most, but not all support this.

If that fails it will use http HEAD to google.com.

This is fast, also, but requires an internet connection in addition to the wifi connection.

This can be an issue on public WiFi hotspots which use portals to log into, and some people’s connections at home or work.

As of 0.8.0.6 it will work like this:

ICMP/ECHO – WiFi AP
HTTP HEAD – WiFi AP
HTTP HEAD – google

This should solve the issues some people are having with network detection.
